Churchwide Studies
Churchwide studies offer materials for adults, youth, and children so that all ages in the church can study the same topic at the same time. Adam Hamilton has a new churchwide study for Lent this year. The Walk: Five Essential Practices of the Christian Life looks at spiritual practices and their relation to the cross. Adam Hamilton has also published churchwide Lenten studies on Simon Peter, the Apostles’ Creed, the Book of John, following the Way of Jesus, and Jesus’s last 24 hours.
Churchwide Lenten studies are also available for Michael Slaughter’s Renegade Gospel: The Rebel Jesus and Matt Rawle’s What Makes a Hero? The Death-Defying Ministry of Jesus.
You can read about each of the components of these churchwide studies in our pathfinders of Lenten resources for adults, youth, and children.
Worship Plans
Whether it’s the worship service or the Sunday School classroom, the Media Center offers books to spark ideas and give you plans for creating a meaningful observance of Lent. For the worship service, try Easter Services, Sermons, and Prayers. For activities for all ages, try Essential Lent: Holy Moments and Sacred Experiences for Your Whole Congregation.
For your children’s ministry, try Easter-rific! : teaching kids…It’s More than Just One Day!, Sharing the Easter Faith with Children, or Children’s Dramas For The Church Year: Reproducible Dramas for Lent, Easter, and Pentecost.
For more books full of worship plans and activity ideas, view our pathfinders on Lent and Easter Books for Adults and Lent and Easter Resources for Children.
Movies
The Media Center has a variety of movies, documentaries, and animated videos that relate to the Easter story. Consider a church movie night using Apostle Peter and the Last Supper or The Fourth Wise Man. Supplement your small group study or youth group with a documentary such as The True Easter Story or Passion in Jerusalem. Additional options are listed in our Lent and Easter Videos for Adults.
Show the Easter story to children using the Animated New Testament or The Jesus Storybook Bible. Many more options are listed in our Lent and Easter Resources for Children pathfinder.
