Rev. Charlie Baber is the Youth Pastor at University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, NC. He is also the author and illustrator of the new book, Submitting to Be More Vile: The Illustrated Adventures of John and Charles Wesley. I got to interview Charlie about the book and how it can be used in adult bible studies, youth groups, and confirmation classes. Check out the video above.

The book is a collection of Charlie’s webcomic, Wesley Bros, that imagines John and Charles Wesley in the life of our church today. The discussion questions in the book make this a fun and informative resource for groups and individuals to learn about Methodist history and theology.
You can borrow the book from the NC Conference Media Center or purchase it from Cokesbury and other online retailers.
Animated versions of some of Charlie’s comics are also available for use in your groups, to share on social media, or to illustrate your sermons. The animated videos offer discussion questions as well.
I highly recommend Submitting to Be More Vile. It is hilarious, and it will teach you important aspects of Methodist history and theology in a way that makes them memorable. It would make a great gift for any confirmand or Methodist geek.
Schedule a time for your small group or youth group to study this book in 2020. You will laugh, have fun, generate great discussion, and learn a lot! Watch the interview posted above for tips on how to use this resource in your church.
