Forum 6.2 - Is politics a dirty word?

Some Christians believe that faith and politics do not go together.  If this is the case, we may need to redefine both politics and faith.  Here's an opportunity as a group to think through some of the issues at stake when considering faith and politics.  Pick one or more of the topics below to write your own post and offer at least two replies to fellow participants.

  • What do you think of when you hear the term politics or political?
  • Consider the dictionary’s take on politics (especially definition #5).  Does anything surprise you in the list?

  • How is an advocate different from a lobbyist?
  • Are the political beliefs of most Christians you know essentially the same as the beliefs of the rest of the community (or state or nation) or radically different?  Why do you think this is the case?
  • What do you think Jesus would say about the current political discourse in your community, town, state, or the country as a whole?
  • What do you think Jesus would say about what is represented as “Christian” political belief?2
