About the Workshop:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s your turn to lead the brief devotions at the beginning of the meeting. What will you do? Will it be more than an easily forgotten mini-sermon or a story you picked up online? Will it be a perfunctory prayer or could it be an experience that draws participants into the presence of God? Will it make any difference to what happens in the meeting that follows?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jim Harnish has been there and done that more times than he can count. Drawing on 43 years of experience as a pastor, author, and group leader, he will share practical examples and helpful tools to equip clergy and laity to \u201cdemystify\u201d the process of preparation in the hope to \u201cremystify\u201d meetings with the mysterious presence of God\u2019s Spirit. The workshop will also be helpful to preachers in preparing online or virtual devotional experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rev. Dr. James A. Harnish (Jim) retired after 43 years of pastoral ministry in the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was the founding pastor of St. Luke\u2019s United Methodist Church in Orlando and served for 22 years as the Senior Pastor of Hyde Park United Methodist Church in Tampa.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jim is the author of more than 20 books and bible studies including \u201cA Disciple\u2019s Path\u201d and \u201cExtraordinary Ministry in Ordinary Time.\u201d His most recent book is \u201cFinding Your Bearings: How Words that Guided Jesus Through Crisis Can Guide Us.\u201d  He was a Consulting Editor for \u201cThe New Interpreter\u2019s Dictionary of the Bible\u201d and a contributor to \u201cThe Wesley Study Bible.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He served on the General Board of Discipleship and the General Commission on General Conference, and as a delegate to General and Jurisdictional Conferences and World Methodist Conferences in England, Brazil, Kenya and South Africa. He is a facilitator for the Florida Conference Institute of Preaching and a member of the Board of Visitors at Duke Divinity School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
