And, it is our Christian calling to live well with one another through times of conflict. With tools and spiritual disciplines, we can choose faithful words and actions in the midst of ongoing and inevitable church conflict. During this Day of Learning, participants explored how to navigate conflict by developing practices of self-awareness, grace-filled listening, and speaking truth in love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This Day of Learning included:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Resources for conflict transformation; <\/li><li>An example of a biblical reflection on conflict and a resource for creating their own Bible study;<\/li><li>Practical exercises for dialogue and resources for leading others in the spiritual discipline of listening;<\/li><li>Time to reflect together on theological resources for remaining hopeful in the midst of ongoing conflict.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Ellen Ott Marshall<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"183\" height=\"276\" src=\"https:\/\/nccumc.org\/leadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/files\/2019\/12\/Ellen-Ott-Marshall.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3066\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nccumc.org\/leadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/Ellen-Ott-Marshall.jpg 183w, https:\/\/nccumc.org\/leadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/Ellen-Ott-Marshall-99x150.jpg 99w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 183px) 100vw, 183px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Ellen Ott Marshall (M.A. Notre Dame 1992, M.A.\/Ph.D. Vanderbilt 2000) is Associate Professor of Christian Ethics and Conflict Transformation at Candler School of Theology, Emory University. Dr. Marshall focuses on contemporary Christian ethics, with particular attention to violence, peacebuilding, and conflict transformation. She has edited two volumes and written three books. Her most recent book is <em>An Introduction to Christian Ethics: Conflict, Faith, and Human Life<\/em> (Westminster John Knox Press, 2018). Dr. Marshall coordinates the Justice, Peacebuilding, and Conflict Transformation program at Candler, and she regularly offers workshops in conflict transformation for church groups and teachers. She lives in Atlanta with her spouse, three kids, and one dog \u2026 all of whom are her best teachers about conflict and grace.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This virtual Day of Learning took place on January 27, 2021.
