The Center for Leadership Excellence is pleased to present our first free webinar as part of our spring theme, Living in Community Across Differences.
Please join us as we learn from the Rev. Dr. Carolyn Helsel and think together about how to have difficult conversations in our congregations and communities…

Anxious to Talk About It: Helping White Christians Talk Faithfully About Racism
with Carolyn Helsel
Wednesday, Feb 13
12PM, EST
About the webinar:
In this webinar, Helsel takes a storytelling approach to describe the challenges and gifts that come from hearing and telling stories about racism. Part of the struggle involves remaining compassionate towards ourselves through the journey, and strengthening our “emotional muscles” to better bear one another’s burdens. Drawing from language of spiritual practices, Helsel deepens our capacity for tough conversations and points to how to have these conversations with others.
About the Presenter:
The Rev. Dr. Carolyn B. Helsel is the author of Anxious to Talk About It: Helping White Christians Talk Faithfully About Racism (Chalice Press: 2018) and Preaching about Racism: A Guide for Faith Leaders (Chalice Press: 2018). Her work helps people of faith, particularly white people, to have conversations about race by attending to emotions and honoring the experiences of those present. Helsel teaches preaching at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and is a minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
