The course is grounded in the classic patterns of Christian worship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Participants will be able to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be able to name the four elements of the Basic Pattern of Worship and describe the history of this pattern;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practice leadership through the four elements of the basic pattern;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Receive and offer supportive feedback on planning and leading worship;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explore and practice leading worship in a variety of settings, other patterns of worship, and multiple forms of prayer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-theme-secondary-color has-theme-light-gray-background-color has-text-color has-background\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/store.upperroom.org\/product\/the-method-of-our-mission\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Order Your Book!<\/a><\/strong> <br><br>All participants are expected to read <em><a data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/store.upperroom.org\/product\/worshiping-with-united-methodists\" href=\"https:\/\/store.upperroom.org\/product\/worshiping-with-united-methodists\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Worshiping with United Methodists<\/a><\/em>, by Hoyt L. Hickman, prior to class. <br><br>Participants will also need access to a <em>United Methodist Hymnal<\/em> and a <em>United Methodist Book of Worship<\/em>. Your church or pastor probably has a copy that you may borrow. He earned his Th.D. (Doctor of Theology) degree at the Divinity School at Duke University, where he studied Liturgy and Theology and the Arts. His dissertation focused on a theology of corporate prayer: &#8220;Praying Liturgically in the Megachurch: Towards an Augustinian Model for Corporate Christian Prayer.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Glenn<strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, in full connection with the North Carolina Annual Conference. He serves as the pastor of <a href=\"http:\/\/oxfordmethodist.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oxford United Methodist Church<\/a> in Oxford, North Carolina.
