Plus, anyone who takes these two courses will have the coursework they need to apply to become a certified lay servant <a href=\"https:\/\/nccumc.org\/laity\/certified-lay-servant\/how-to-become\/\">(learn more)<\/a>. Please contact your district director or&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:cle@nccumc.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cle@nccumc.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the Course:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This course will explore the special gifts of theology, witness, and organization that The United Methodist Church brings to the church universal, how we got where we are today, and how our distinctive emphases are still needed in the 21st-century church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Participants will:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gain an understanding of the distinctive traditions and emphases of The United Methodist Church;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn about the journey of the people historically known as Methodists and Evangelical United Brethren, who united in 1968 to form The United Methodist Church;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn about the contributions of the early leaders of these churches \u2013 Wesley, Otterbein, Boehm, Albright, and many others;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop skills in interpreting United Methodist heritage and emphases to the local church and its members.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-theme-secondary-color has-theme-light-gray-background-color has-text-color has-background\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/store.upperroom.org\/product\/living-our-beliefs-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Order Your Book!<\/a><\/strong><br> <br>All participants are expected to read <strong><em>Living Our Beliefs: The United Methodist Way<\/em><\/strong>, by Kenneth L. He is passionate about becoming a better disciple and helping others to grow in relationship with God and with one another. He is the husband of Michelle, who introduced him to the Methodist church, and father of Mary Elysse and Lauren.
