This course will be offered via Zoom on Mondays from 6:00 pm &#8211; 8:00 pm, starting on October 14, 2024 and ending on November 11, 2024. Confronting the deep personal and theological questions created by loving people with dementia, Carder calls the church to a deeper discipleship defined by the quality of our caring and receiving relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants will discover what it means to carry each other\u2019s memories, joys, and diminishments together in community. Through loving practices that nurture and incorporate persons with Alzheimer\u2019s and dementia into the church\u2019s life and ministry, we experience a spiritual wholeness rooted in God\u2019s grace beyond our own strengths and capacities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be better equipped to minister with people affected by dementia, receiving their gifts and responding to their unique needs;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discover practical ways the contributions of people with dementia can be identified, nurtured, and incorporated into the church\u2019s life and ministry;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deepen their understanding of how those with dementia maintain their identity and worth as beloved children of God.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-theme-light-gray-background-color has-background\">Order Your Book! <br><br><em>All participants are expected to read&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cokesbury.com\/Ministry-with-the-Forgotten?refq=ministry%20with%20the%20forgotten\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ministry with the Forgotten: Dementia through a Spiritual Lens<\/a>, by Kenneth L. A native Mississippian, Joey and Bishop Connie Shelton have been married for 37 years. They have 2 adult daughters.&nbsp;Joey is a retired elder from the Mississippi Annual Conference. His last appointment was Dean of the Chapel and Director of Church Relations and the Center for Ministry at Millsaps College where he taught courses in Wesleyan history and theology with emphasis on race and Christian nationalism.
