(Part 2)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Certified lay ministers (CLMs) are movers and shakers in their communities and they are involved in a wide-range of different ministries that reflect their specific gifts and callings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, we shared a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nccumc.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=e5520f6d654a662d3887beb73&amp;id=143a1f7e7d&amp;e=4397ea717a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">video<\/a>&nbsp;of one CLM candidate, Sue Ann Jatko, presenting her ministry project, a culminating project unique to the NC Conference&#8217;s CLM training program that gives candidates an opportunity to share their vision and plan for ministry as a CLM.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sue Ann is one of 8 CLM candidates who have been together since September, working through the four training modules, building relationships with their pastor and district superintendent, and creating a team of support in their local church, all as a part of their preparation to become certified lay ministers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We give thanks to God for all of these CLM candidates and the ways they are answering God&#8217;s call on their lives&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/nccumc.org\/laity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2024\/04\/unnamed-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7946\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Back Row (left to right):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Rick Stanford<\/strong>\u00a0(Millbrook UMC, Capital) is drawing on his years of experience as a restaurant owner to create a\u00a0<strong>hospitality ministry<\/strong>\u00a0at his church.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dick Morrison<\/strong>\u00a0(Wrightsville UMC, Harbor) is instituting regular\u00a0<strong>worship services in a retirement community<\/strong>\u00a0and organizing a team of laity to ensure the worship and ministry remains sustainable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Jeanne Gregory\u00a0<\/strong>(Trinity UMC-Southport, Harbor) is instituting a\u00a0<strong>ministry fair<\/strong>\u00a0in her congregation to build connections between people\u00a0involved in different ministries and to share with the congregation and community about the many ways to become involved.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lisa O&#8217;Donnell<\/strong>\u00a0(Live Oak UMC, Harbor) is building a\u00a0<strong>food pantry ministry<\/strong>\u00a0in partnership with the three congregations her pastor serves.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sue Ann Jatko<\/strong>\u00a0(St. Francis UMC, Fairway) is partnering with the NC Conference to increase awareness of\u00a0<strong>spiritual direction\u00a0<\/strong>opportunities for United Methodists.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Front Row (left to right):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mary McLeod<\/strong>\u00a0(St. Matthews UMC, Gateway)\u00a0is establishing a\u00a0<strong>preschool<\/strong>\u00a0to meet a need for affordable childcare in her community and to share the love of Jesus with children who may not attend church otherwise.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Shannon Perkins<\/strong>\u00a0(St. James UMC, Heritage)\u00a0is still listening for God&#8217;s direction but plans to start with her own Girl Scout troop. She is encouraging her church to use its space and partner to sponsor\u00a0<strong>cooking classes for children<\/strong>\u00a0who may be home alone to learn to prepare healthy food without needing to turn on an oven.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lusi Radford<\/strong>\u00a0(Avent Ferry UMC, Capital) is reestablishing\u00a0<strong>adult Christian discipleship<\/strong>\u00a0in her church, starting with a Tenx10\u00a0study for adults that will run in parallel to the youth confirmation class.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How is God calling you to deepen your witness and commitment as a lay person?\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<br><br>If you are curious about certified lay ministry, we invite you to join us for a Day of Discovery,\u00a0<strong>Saturday,\u00a0June 1, 10am-3pm,\u00a0<\/strong>at the NC Conference Building in Garner.
