Matthew 27:15-26; Mark 14:66-72
The cross represents humankind’s ultimate rejection of God’s generosity incarnate in the person of Jesus. Look through today’s headlines. How do we continue to reject and even crucify God’s generosity toward us?
As I reflect upon our scripture readings for today of the rejection of the people of God’s ultimate generosity as pictured on the cross, my heart breaks that still today we reject that generosity and continue to live lives in search of self- gratification and self- fulfillment.
I pray today for guidance and direction as I try to follow God’s design and learn to live as Jesus teaches us “poured out for others”. May I grow to imitate God and may generosity become a natural part of my everyday living. May I, when I see my sister or brother in need never walk away from the chance to be generous. May I learn to model God’s giving. “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us?” (Eph. 5:1-2).
What a great time during Advent to become imitators of God. “ Let’s worship fully, give more, spend less, and love all “
