Guidelines for Submission of Local Lay Ministries for 2018:
Each year at Annual Conference, the Board of Laity highlights several ministries throughout the conference that are initiated and led by dedicated laypersons. For 2018, we’re looking for outward engagement, ministries that build relationships with those outside of the church.
We are looking for ministries that actually involve the congregation in meeting, serving and building relationships with those outside of the church. Many congregations have long lists of ways that they ‘serve’. They collect food and socks and underwear. They make stuffed dolls to distribute in hospitals. They sponsor dinners to feed the homeless and have Fall Festivals. While all these ministries are worthwhile and do good things, we are reminded that our churches are called to make disciples to transform the world and that requires building relationships with those in our communities.
To be a disciple means a person has chosen to live a life reflecting a choice to be part of the body of Christ through worship and hospitality; to become more like Jesus by opening to and obeying Jesus; and to join Jesus in ministry through service and generosity.
These lay ministry submissions are due by Jan. 19 (absolute deadline). Please submit your ministry using the online form below.
We are looking forward to celebrating the many great ministries that are transforming the world in the churches of the North Carolina Conference!
