Churches should be mindful of election guidelines
Churches and religious organizations in the United States qualify for exemption from federal income tax, and are generally eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions. However, there are ways churches could jeopardize or even lose this status, and one is a concern each election season.
According to the Internal Revenue Service’s Tax Guide for Churches and Religious Organizations, churches are among the tax-exempt organizations “prohibited from participating or intervening in any political campaign on behalf of, or in opposition to, any candidate for public office.” read more

Attend the Children’s Ministry Workshop
“How Will They Know the Story?” is a workshop for adult leaders of children’s ministries in local congregations to be presented on Sept. 8 at St. James UMC (Greenville) and repeated at St. Luke UMC (Sanford) on Sept. 22. Early registration deadline extended for IGNITE!
The early registration deadline for the Youth IGNITE! event has been extended to Aug. 30. The conference Commission on Evangelism has created the two-day IGNITE! event to empower youth to share their faith story and share the Good News of Christ! Andy Lambert is the leader for IGNITE! Marty Cauley is writing a curriculum that will be fun, powerful, and Wesleyan. The event is open to youth in 6-12 grades and the cost is only $25. There will be small groups for middle schoolers, senior highs, and youth leaders. IGNITE! runs Sept. 28-30 at Camp Rockfish. For more information on this new and exciting adventure, go to IGNITE.
