Walking Across The Road: Creating Community & Building Faith Through Relationships

July 9, 2013 Leave a Comment

North Carolina Conference Connectional Ministries and The Academy of Leadership Excellence are hosting The Church for All People and staff leaders from GBGM for “Walking Across The Road: Creating Community and Building Faith Through Relationships.”

The workshop will take place at Nashville UMC, from 9:30am-3:30pm, on September 21. A cost of $10 (plus transaction fee) will go toward lunch provided to registered attendees.

The day will feature worship, reflections on population groups in the area, breakout sessions and a panel discussion on how to get the party started in your own context.

The breakout sessions will feature the guests from GBGM and several pastors and leaders from churches in the NC Conference who have successfully birthed multicultural faith communities through ministries of service to and with people in need. A full list of breakout sessions is provided below.

All district mission strategy teams, local church mission/outreach teams and any who have passion for connecting with the people in their community are welcome.

Registration for the event is now open. To pay online, a payment link will be provided on the confirmation page. For any questions about the event, please contact Linda Harris at leeharris@nccumc.org.

Breakout Sessions

George Howard – Asset Based Development
How do we recognize the assets God has already provided within our church community and see ways of building strong relationships and partnerships with those around us?

Lupina Villalpando – “Acompanamiento, Learning to walk together”
God provides to each of us opportunities to connect to our community. Through this workshop we want to explore those opportunities and learn how to transform them from social interactions to points of entry for ministry.

Zack Ferguson – Young Adult Missionary Experience

Tom Greener “Jobs for Life”
A ministry to/for the unemployed, building skills, confidence, community and faith.

Jose Luis Villasenor & Gray Southern, “One Church, Multiple Expressions of Faith”
The pastors will share their experiences of what it means to be a multi-site church, one that also has a Hispanic campus, as well as, some of the gains and costs from this church model.

Jane Leechford – “Ministries to/with the Poor – A Vital Relationship”
Using the backdrop of Martha’s Place at Page Memorial UMC in Aberdeen, the workshop will focus on what it means for the church to be in relationship with the poor and how such a relationship impacts the vitality and vulnerability of the local church.

Melba McCallum – “Partnerships for Ministry, A Disciple-Making Way”
Through this workshop we will explore ways to become visible witnesses for Christ – serving, collaborating, advocating and engaging the poor, the marginalized and disengaged.

Gypsie Murdaugh – “Small Church, Big Difference”
A story of proactive, radical hospitality.
