Due to the many different versions of smartphones/tablets and operating systems from different cell phone vendors on those phones it is very difficult for the IT Office to support them by email or phone. If you cannot successfully change your phone, please take these instructions to your local cell phone provider for assistance. If you can bring the phone into the IT Office then we will be happy to help with switching over to the new server.
Gmail App
The IT Office recommends that you start checking your e-mail using the Gmail mobile application. To enable email on a new Android smartphone/tablet, start the preinstalled Gmail app and enter your conference email address and password. Non-Android smartphone/tablet users can install the Gmail app by follow these steps to install this software.
- Open the web browser on your phone.
- Download and install the Gmail application.
- Open the Gmail application on your device.
- Enter your full conference address as the user name. Enter your password.
- Your conference e-mail account should sync within a few minutes.
Calendar/Contact Synchronization
One of the new features of the Google Apps system is the ability to share your calendar appointments with anyone you choose. You can also sync down your contacts wirelessly. With this new system there is no need to run the Blackberry Desktop sync program. Follow these steps to install this synchronization software:
- Open the web browser on your phone.
- Download and install the Google Sync application.
- Open the Google Sync application on your phone.
- Enter your full conference address as the user name. Enter your password.
- Configure the sync preferences.
- Your conference contacts and calendar items should sync within a few minutes.
