This book is a comprehensive history of the relationship between Lumbee Indians and Methodism in North Carolina. It includes chapters on the Lumbee people, the impact of Methodism, local church stories, and key people involved in the movement with a foreword by Bishop Minnick. Appendices include tributes, sermon notes, Lumbee lines, a record of service, and some significant dates. The section on church stories includes chapters about the following churches: Ashpole Center, Prospect, Pleasant Grove, Sandy Plains, Fairview, Hickory Grove, Pembroke First, Collins Chapel, New Philadelphus, Branch Street, Coharie, The Lighthouse Mission, West Robeson, Grace. This book was written by Lumbee Methodists, Jane and Michael Smith. It was published by the NC Conference Commission of Archives and History in 1990.
