Location changes for Safe Sanctuary Training Events
Due to high enrollment for the Monday, Oct. 31 session, the training that day will be moved to Millbrook UMC in Raleigh, 9 a.m. – noon. Participants are encouraged to carpool to minimize parking needs. The Saturday, Oct. 22 makeup session will now be moved to the Conference Office in Garner from 9 a.m. – noon. Early Response Team (ERT) training on October 29
Hayes Barton UMC: Raleigh 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Open to everyone.
The need for people trained in early response is critical. The mission of an early response team is to provide a caring presence in the aftermath of a disaster, under very specific guidelines that enable a team to be productive and caring while causing no further harm or being a burden to the affected community. Classes are taught by authorized UMCOR trainers, and team members are given ID badges as evidence of training. Topics covered in the class include the who, what, when, where and how of doing ministry, as well as hands-on experience in the specific tasks that early responders are expected to accomplish. Until the end of the year, registration fees are being waived, so the only cost is for background checks. Most churches will conduct the background check for you, but if you want the NCC to conduct it, the cost is $15 if you have lived in NC for the past seven years, and $20 if under seven years. UMM Duke Day Outreach
The game time for the Duke/Wake Forest game on Oct. 22 has been announced as 12:30 p.m.
To accommodate this kick-off time, the program schedule for UMM Duke Day is as follows:
10-10:30 a.m. registration; 10:30-11:30 a.m. chapel service; 11:30 a.m.- noon lunch; and

Alpha Training Opportunity in Durham
An Alpha Marriage Course Training Day will be held from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at Aldersgate UMC in Durham. This 1/2-day training event will equip local church teams to run the Marriage Course to strengthen marriages in their churches and community. Walking Program Picks Up The PACE
Current Amazing Pace walking program participants should have received an email this week telling them how to register to receive the new pedometer. Participants are encouraged to follow these steps as soon as possible to ensure timely receipt and set up of the new pedometer. The next journey begins Nov. 1. In order to be eligible for the cash incentive, participants must have their pedometers by that day. Current participants who did not receive the email should contact the Amazing Pace customer service at 1-800-748-9697, ext. 205. Raleigh Cokesbury store undergoing renovations
The Cokesbury store in Raleigh will be closed Oct. 17-26 for remodeling. The store will reopen Thursday, Oct. 27. Orders can still be placed during this time by phone at 919-872-8810 or 866-265-2665.
Trail Run planned for Chestnut Ridge
Camp Chestnut Ridge is hosting a Trail Run on Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. Check-in is at 9 a.m. Registration is $25.00 before Nov. 15 and $35.00 after Nov. 15 through the day of the race. Disciple Making is NOT a Program
Jan. 13 and 14, 2012 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Cost: $15 per person (includes lunch)
A training event for lay and clergy will be presented at the United Methodist Building in Garner by Dr. Steve Manskar, director of Wesleyan Leadership for The General Board of Discipleship. Friday’s one-day event will be repeated on Saturday. (Participants attend only one day.) This training opportunity will offer a look at small groups, a core element in the Wesleyan DNA and how John Wesley used the small group system for discipleship. It will also describe ways they can be utilized in today’s church as a means of making and growing disciples. Online registration will open Nov. 1.
