Conference to hold open house in December
The conference is hosting an open house/tour of the United Methodist Building on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 1-4:00 p.m. All members of the NC Conference, both clergy and lay, are welcome to attend. In addition to touring the building, visitors will be able to register with the National Marrow Donor Program and be listed in a database of potential bone marrow donors and/or also donate non-perishable food items to a food drive which will benefit the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Caring for Creation event March 31-April 3
Life in our world today is challenged by how we care for the gift of Earth given to us by God. The Christian faith challenges us to be caretakers of Earth. Caring for Creation helps members of faith communities learn how we can care of the Earth is often taken for granted. The Caring for Creation experience provides the Biblical and theological support for developing opportunities for faith communities to be caretakers of the home, Earth. Read more
United Methodist Student Day is Nov. 28
Nearly 1,000 United Methodists who qualified for a scholarship this year walked away empty-handed, and even more students are expected to be disappointed in 2011 unless giving to United Methodist scholarship funds increases dramatically. United Methodist churches are strongly encouraged to receive the United Methodist Student Day offering on Nov. 28. Read more
UMCOR at work in Sudan/Darfur
United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) continues to work in Sudan, named as the worse humanitarian disaster of the 21st Century. Over 400,000 people are estimated to have been killed in fighting and over 2 million people are displaced. This critical ministry provides radical hospitality to some of the most vulnerable people in the world. UMCOR works in Darfur and other areas bringing agriculture extension, emergency supply distribution, feeding the growing numbers of starving people, refugee resettlement, and small-scale livelihoods.
