Clarence Brown, former District Superintendent and the successful current senior pastor at Annandale UMC in Annandale, VA will be the lead facilitator of this event.  Some of the specific areas of focus are strengthening ministry effectiveness; creating an action plan for successful ministry; staying inspired and motivated in ministry; and creating a supportive network of colleagues. Unity Dialogue to meet March 28
The Unity Dialogue will convene March 28 at St. Francis UMC in Cary. The Saturday morning dialogue is open to all from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meeting at least twice each year, the appointees have reflected together on Christian faith and homosexuality. The group has no authority to shape policy nor any budget to implement programs. The intent of the Dialogue has been to seek understanding of different points of view in this sensitive issue.  Last fall it was decided that the Dialogue should be expanded to include other persons with interest in the issue. The March gathering is again an open table. Participants are asked to practice “holy conferencing,” respectfully listening to one another, and speaking about the topic presented that day. It is expected that the topic on March 28 will be “Experiences of faith as gay and straight believers.”

Margaret Therkelsen to lead Prayer Conference
The Fayetteville District is hosting a prayer conference the weekend of March 27-29 led by Margaret Therkelsen. Therkelsen’s theme will be “The Ministry of the Holy Spirit in Our Daily Prayer Time” and her ministry stimulates others to develop an active prayer life of their own by weaving together insightful understanding of Scripture, relating her own prayer journey, and wonderful answers to prayer. There will be several gatherings with Therkelsen during the weekend. Friday, March 27 will be a “Day with Pastors” at Trinity UMC (6974 Raeford Rd., Fayetteville 28304.) Saturday, March 28 will be a “day with Laity” at St. Matthews UMC (202 Hope Mills Rd., Fayetteville 28304.) Reservations are required and can be made by calling the Fayetteville District Office at 910-263-8111. The only cost is $5.00 for lunch for either day. To read more about the planned events, go to Fayetteville District.

The remaining 50 percent of the offering expands mission work with the Native American Urban Initiative and provides scholarships for Native Americans attending United Methodist and other approved schools of theology.
