From The Bishop: Congregations for Children Summit

July 8, 2015 Leave a Comment

C4C Summit

Dear United Methodist friends,

Grace and peace to you in these summer days.

A very important event for inspiration and training is planned to advance Congregations for Children, our mission in church-school partnerships across the state of North Carolina.

I look forward to being with many of you on Friday, July 31, at 10am, at Garner United Methodist Church for the Congregations for Children Summit. Here in North Carolina, we lead the connection in engaging with children in poverty through church-school partnerships, embraced now by the Council of Bishops as a priority focus of United Methodist mission for the next quadrennium, 2017-2020.

I urge you to be present with others from your church. This is a great opportunity to grow from “strength to strength” in ministry with children and their families in our communities. Wherever you are in relation to this priority – visioning toward the possibility, just starting to engage or engaged over time – you will find this day delightful, inspiring and practically helpful.

Register for this event today!

Thank you for marking this event on your calendar and inviting several people to ride with you to Garner on July 31!

With gratitude for our partnership in Christ’s ministry,

Hope Morgan Ward

Event Information:
On July 31, there will be a Congregations for Children (C4C) Summit held from 10am-3pm at Garner United Methodist Church (201 Methodist Drive, Garner, NC).  The purpose of the summit is to inform, educate and inspire those involved in leading or participating in a church/school partnership.

The agenda will encompass a variety of guest speakers/trainers to include:  Bishop Hope Morgan Ward; Superintendent of NC Public Schools, Dr. June Atkinson; consultants from NC Dept. of Public Instruction’s K-3 Literacy group (who will provide training on NC’s literacy curriculum and testing procedures, as well as “tips for tutors”); Professor of Education & Director of the Francis Marion University Center of Excellence to Prepare Teachers of Children of Poverty, Dr. Tammy Pawloski, Ph.D. (who will provide training related to overcoming the challenges of teaching children in poverty) and National Coordinator for the Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) program, Keith Schumacher (who will provide certification training on how to help a school launch a Watch DOGS program to help curb issues related to fatherlessness, lack of positive male adult role models and bullying).

Attendees will hear all of the speakers listed above – there are no breakout sessions.  Lunch will be provided.  This is a fantastic free training opportunity for those who are currently involved in a church/school partnership and those who are considering the development of one.  Registration is required.   Please register (it will take you less than 60 seconds) by clicking on this link:  http://goo.gl/forms/86YhwLa9Oj
