Brandon Spence, Director of Music at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, Virginia, is a native of Norfolk, Virginia. Upon completion of undergraduate studies at Old Dominion University (organ performance under Freida Vogan), Spence moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he attended the University of Michigan, earning three graduate credentials there (M.M., M.M., D.M.A.) in performance and church music related studies. Later, he attended the University of Notre Dame and earned a graduate credential in liturgical studies.
Dr. Spence has served as music director for parishes as well as diocesan and archdiocesan cathedrals all the while maintaining an active role as organist/harpsichordist with the West Michigan Symphony ( a relationship that continues to this day). He has taught music at every level, kindergarten through college and the seminary.
