The Society of St. Andrew (SoSA) is seeking a part-time Gleaning Coordinator for our Triangle NC region. SoSA is a non-profit hunger relief organization that works with farmers and packinghouses to rescue fresh fruits and vegetables that may otherwise end up as waste. With the help of our volunteers, we glean or salvage produce and distribute it to local feeding agencies.
The Triangle Area Gleaning Coordinator will further the mission of SoSA throughout a 10-county region rurrounding Raleigh and Durham. This position is supported through the NC Regional office in Durham and assumes responsibilities for various aspects of SoSA’s ministry in the local area to include:
– Maintaining current and building new relationships with current donor farmers, volunteer groups, and receiving agencies
– Conducting gleaning and distribution events, including managing volunteers
– Speaking to local groups and churches about the Gleaning Network as needed
– Maintaining detailed records and reporting to the regional office on a regular basis
The Gleaning Coordinator needs to be a “self-starter” in developing and carrying out program needs and objectives with very good organizational and communication skills. Farmers, volunteers, and agency contacts all expect to have a response to their questions within the same day. Some physical labor when leading gleaning events can be expected. Travel throughout the Local Gleaning Network area should also be expected and access to a vehicle is required – employee will be reimbursed for mileage. This is a 15 hour/week position and the pay starts at $9.50/hr.
