Oriental United Methodist Church Music/Choir Director
1) Qualifications:
a) Background and training in conducting, choral, vocal, and instrumental ministries (music degree and experience preferred)
b) Able to coordinate and communicate musical needs between pastor and choirs
c) A thorough knowledge of sacred music, traditional and contemporary
d) Willing and able to work outside by the River for the early service May through October and other special services, to direct music, help set up equipment, and provide technical assistance
2) Qualities:
a) Able to integrate Christian faith and principles into his/her work as Music
Director.
b) A leadership style that encourages people’s commitment and dedication to the
music ministry.
c) Ability to work with and to develop the talent that we have among the Oriental UM
Church family.
d) Effective communication and people skills.
e) Supportive of existing programs as well as new opportunities.
3) Duties:
a) Oversees the 8:30 am and 11:00 am services music program.
b) Conducts music for 8:30 am and 11:00 am worship services and rehearsal days.
c) Conducts warm-up session for choirs prior to worship services.
d) Coordinates music for 8:30 am and 11:00 am worship services with pastor (picks out
hymns if pastor so desires). Anthems and special music should be chosen two to
three weeks in advance.
e) Selects, prepares, and maintains file of music for the 8:30 am and 11:00 am choirs,
ensuring the church is in compliance with all copyright laws.
