Status: Part Time Salaried Hours: 30 Hours per Week Salary: Annual $26,000 – $29,000 as determined by Staff Parish and Finance Committee and Approved by the Administrative Board Purpose: The purpose of the Youth Minister at Mt. Olivet UMC is to introduce, nurture, and develop the spiritual growth of our young people between 6th – 12th grades in their personal relationship with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ so they may become His disciples for the transformation of the world. Supervision: Pastor, Staff Parish, Youth Council Qualifications:
• Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a strong desire to work with youth.
• Must embrace and demonstrate Christian Discipline and United Methodist Doctrine and Theology
• Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills
• Proven ability to work with youth and youth volunteers
General Job Summary: The Youth Minister will nurture the faith development of youth from 6th through 12th grades through educational, fellowship and spiritual growth programs and activities. This will include management of designated hours at “The Cove”, active participation in community youth events and specific spiritual education programs as directed by the Youth Council, Staff Parish Committee and the Pastor. He/she will handle administrative duties associated-with all youth programs from 6th thru 12th grades; preview curriculum and work closely with the established Youth Coordinator and Youth Council to select materials appropriate for each age group. To ensure a smooth, safe and effective program, the Director will actively recruit and train volunteer youth leaders with the goal of having a highly relational and spiritually mature team. They should be enthusiastic as well as encouragers and developers of youth. He/she will work closely with the Director of Music and Director of Children’s Ministries. Youth are the priority, but the Director must also’ interact with the parents. This position will be reviewed and evaluated (3) months following employment and at least annually thereafter by the SPPRC and Pastor.
