– Performs organ and piano music for regular services (8:30 and 11:00 a.m.) and special services (including but not limited to: Lenten services, Advent services, Christmas Eve service). May perform prelude, postlude, and offertory and accompany choirs, soloists, or ensembles during the anthem or special music at the direction of the Director of Music.
– Rehearses with choirs weekly for regular services and rehearses with choirs, soloists, and ensembles as needed for special services or special music.
– Selects appropriate music for prelude, postlude, and offertory.
– Practices sufficiently to maintain a high quality of music at the organ and piano.
– Cooperates with Pastor, Director of Music Ministries, staff, choir, and musicians so the music ministry is enhanced within the life of the church.
– Reports to the Director of Music the condition and needs for tuning and maintenance of the church organ and piano.
– Arranges for substitute organist/pianist during periods of absence.
– May also play for funerals and weddings for additional compensation.
– Organist/pianist may also have permission to conduct private lessons and make the organ available to qualified students.
– May be asked by Sr. Pastor to perform other duties as needed outside of the regular job duties to help the church function effectively.
Qualifications:
– Experience playing a Rogers 837 organ with 2 manuals or equivalent
– Training in organ and piano: Bachelors degree or higher in Music, Vocal Performance or related discipline is preferred.
– Ability to effectively interact with church staff and volunteer members of the choirs.
