The Society of St. Andrew (SoSA) is seeking a part-time Gleaning Coordinator in the northeast corner of North Carolina. SoSA is a non-profit hunger relief organization that works with farmers to rescue fresh fruits and vegetables that may otherwise end up as waste. With the help of our volunteers, we glean or salvage produce and distribute it to local feeding agencies. The NE NC/SE VA Area Gleaning Coordinator will further the mission of SoSA in a 17-county region based around Elizabeth City, NC. This position is supported through the NC Regional office in Durham and is expected to:
● Maintain relationships with current donor farmers, volunteers, and receiving agencies
● Recruit farmers to allow gleaning of their produce and volunteers to participate in gleaning events
● Speak to local groups and churches about the Gleaning Network and SoSA as needed
● Maintain detailed records and report to the regional office on a regular basis
Qualifications:
The Gleaning Coordinator should be a highly motivated individual with excellent organizational and communication skills. Since this position is established away from the regional office, Gleaning Coordinators need to be “self-starters” in developing and carrying out program needs and objectives. Some travel and physical labor when leading gleaning events can be expected. This is a year-round position, averaging 15 hours a week (less time is needed in the winter months, but more during harvest). The salary is $9.50/hour to start plus $25/month cell phone reimbursement.
