Traditional Worship Service Organist/ Pianist

Purpose: To serve the congregation by providing appropriate musical accompaniment for worship services and other programs of the church. Focused primarily on the 11:00 traditional worship service. Responsible for leading the Handbell Choir.
Accountability: This position is directly responsible to and supervised by the Director of Worship Arts. Also accountable to the Senior Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
1. Accompany the adult choir and prepare/provide music for Sunday worship and special services as requested by the Director and/or Senior Pastor (i.e. Holy Week, Advent, Christmas, Cantatas etc.)
2. Provide accompaniment for Chancel Choir rehearsal on Wednesday night and Sunday morning.
3. Play piano and organ for Sunday worship and special services/programs including: Preludes, Hymns, Offertory, Anthems, Communion, Special Music, Postlude and other needs as defined by the Director.
4. With the Director, arrange for a skilled substitute accompanist for Sunday worship or rehearsal when not able to be present.
5. Prepare/provide music for funerals and weddings conducted in the Hay Street sanctuary, with the right of first refusal. Be available to play when feasible. Church Administrator will be point of contact for scheduling, payment for services, and dissemination of pertinent information regarding such services.
6. Other duties and responsibilities as required by Director or Senior Pastor.
Hours: This is a part-time salaried position. Expectations include Sunday morning and Wednesday evenings, as listed above and other times as needed. The position includes paid time off of 4 Sundays vacation and 1 Sunday sick leave.
Evaluation: Conditions of employment, compensation, benefits and other related matters are to be considered on an annual basis and at other times as necessary by the Staff Parish Relations Committee. Evaluation shall be performed annually by the Director and reviewed by the Senior Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee. All other matters are covered by the Hay Street UMC Employee Handbook.
