Status: Part-time (15-20 hours per week)
Ministry Position Description:
The Contemporary Worship Leader works with teams to fulfill the mission of First United Methodist Church (FUMC) to make disciples of Jesus Christ by preparing for and leading a weekly modern worship service that connects with a multi-generational congregation, promotes authentic worship, and proclaims the uncompromised message of the gospel through passionate music and messages. The primary focus of this position centers on continuing to build church membership and discipleship through contemporary worship.
Results of Ministry:
There is a contemporary worship comprehensive strategy and plan that aligns with the mission of FUMC.
Praise Band volunteer members are recruited, developed and inspired to share the love of Christ through music and worship.
Praise Band teams are organized, and long-term strategies are created that form sustainable long-term ministry through contemporary worship.
Mid-week rehearsals are scheduled, executed and effective at creating a well thought out and prepared plan for Sunday worship.
Collaborative work with the ministry staff creates meaningful worship experiences around the United Methodist Lectionary inclusive of holidays such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, etc.
Various forms of music are incorporated to build a robust and connecting service including instruments, vocalists, etc.
A Youth Praise Band is created providing additional opportunities for youth engagement in weekly services, youth group activities, etc.
Community outreach programs engage community members through contemporary music, dance, praise and worship.
Appropriate forms of communication (meetings, social media, email, blogging, etc.) are maintained with Praise Band members, church staff and supporting committees.
An active participation in the worshiping life of FUMC is maintained through Sunday Morning Worship, Small Groups, and Special Events.
Active engagement in the body of the church is achieved by participating in activities, connecting with new and existing members and welcoming guests.
Qualifications:
A committed and growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord, demonstrated by a consistent witness.
A dedication to the church, promoting an environment of support and unity.
Experience in leading church worship.
A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
A passionate desire to lead Christ followers through contemporary worship and music.
A familiarity with and commitment to Wesleyan theology.
An understanding and support of the United Methodist Church’s doctrine in all areas of faith and practice.
An ability to network, lead, and build a team, while working as a team member with church staff, Church Council, and other groups.
Familiarity and demonstrated ability with social media and electronic communications, and overall strong communication skills.
Demonstrated organization and time-management skills as well as the ability to handle multiple priorities at one time.
Salary is based on experience level.
