White Plains United Methodist Church, a 2500-member church in Cary, NC, seeks to employ a disciple of Jesus Christ who is gifted musically to inspire, nurture, and lead others to Christ through both traditional and contemporary worship styles and who can fill the dual roles of passionate visionary and practical organizer. The Director will provide creative servant leadership, acting as advocate for the entire music and arts ministry; collaborating with pastors and program staff; selecting music and other artistic elements for worship services; leading ensembles; budgeting for and maintaining music, instruments, and equipment; and supervising program staff and volunteers. Applicants need deep Biblical and theological knowledge; familiarity with the liturgy, hymnody, and symbolism of the United Methodist Church; knowledge of the classical sacred music repertoire and openness to contemporary expressions of praise and worship; choral and instrumental conducting skill; excellent t ime management, advance planning, and communication skills; and a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in music and five years’ worship arts leadership in a large church setting, preferably within the Methodist tradition. The Director will lead in formulating and communicating a vision for the music and arts ministry, as well as coordinate the music and arts programs.
