The person seeking to embrace this role should embody the qualities of: Joy, Passion and Flexibility. It will be helpful for this person to have the ability to play instrument(s); the piano and/or guitar, etc. with competence. The Director of Children and Youth Music Ministries sees music primarily as a way to participate in Christian community, and not primarily perform. This leader will model the qualities of discipleship, which will assist in shaping children and youth as Christian disciples. They will lead in such a way as to encourage children, youth and the adults in their lives to serve the hurts and hopes of the community and world.
The Director will work with existing children’s choirs/ensembles; including, but not limited to vocal ensembles, as well as instrumental ones. This leader will also develop a listening relationship with those working in Children’s and Youth Ministries, seeking to envision and create new musical ensembles and to assist in launching them. These groups could include, but not be limited to:
Children’s Choir(s) and Music Ensembles (i.e. Hand chimes, etc.)
Youth Vocal and Instrumental ensembles
This role would require an average 10-12 hr. weekly time investment with 4 to 6 Sunday mornings off per year.
