Sunrise UMC, Holly Springs, is seeking a part-time Director of Adult Discipleship. The Director will play a vital role in Sunrise’s life, specifically through planning/developing a comprehensive program of adult Christian education – and in recruiting/equipping volunteer leaders. In addition to having a deep love of God & passion for leading people in becoming disciples of Jesus Christ, the Director will exemplify giftedness in the following areas:
• Strong relational equity & communication skills. The candidate must have a pro-active willingness to get to know Sunrise members, their stories, and their desires for learning & growing as disciples. The candidate will also have exceptional communication skills, as well as the ability to speak confidently before groups.
• Knowledge of resources & curricula. Knowledge of United Methodist theology & doctrine is essential. The candidate must be able to identify and select appropriate education/spiritual formation resources for adult small groups – including Sunday School, affinity-based groups, and education-based groups.
• Initiative. The candidate must be a self-starter. As discipleship groups are formed, promoted, and launched, the Director will need to work closely with each group/class leader to determine needs, life-cycle of each group, and potential new leaders for existing & future groups.
• Emphasis on evangelism. The Director will need to work proactively with staff and leaders to invite and include newcomers in such opportunities.
Expectation of commitment: 20 hours/week, flexible schedule. Salary: $20,300 with paid vacation & sick leave. Bachelor’s degree required; post-graduate theological training preferred.
