Job Summary:
The UUMC Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing the church’s strategic communications plan. This includes understanding the church’s mission as well as its target audiences in order to design effective communication. The role requires development of internal and external communication materials, including items such as original articles, photographs, videos, social media posts, graphics, and publications.
Responsibilities include:
• Develop and execute UUMC’s documented communication plan in coordination with clergy, staff and the communications committee; Measure communication plan results and provide ongoing revision
• Develop, edit and manage website content, including original stories, articles, designs, photos, and videos, ensuring integrated connections to multimedia and social media
• Develop, edit and manage e-newsletters, bulletins, brochures, printed newsletters and other communication materials
• Develop and maintain a social media strategy and manage UUMC’s social media accounts
• Establish policies and style guidelines for staff and church members who assist with church communication; Guide and train others in communication skills as needed
• Manage vendors and contractors related to communication, for example, website developers, freelance writers, graphic designers, and printers
• Build and maintain relationships with local media outlets
• Measure results of all communication efforts with qualitative and quantitative methods
• Oversee multiple projects and ensure communication tasks are complete
