The Children’s Choir Director will oversee the choir program, including supervision of other children’s music volunteers. Presently there are two children’s choirs: Cherub Choir (3 to 5yrs) and Kid’s Choir (K-5th grade).
This is a part-time job which averages approximately 5 hours a week, including an additional 5 hours one Sunday per month for choir performances.
Responsibilities:
•Direct the Kid’s Choir rehearsals on Sunday afternoons, which generally runs from September through May.
•Provide direction and resources for Cherub Choir volunteer leaders
•Help recruit music volunteers and accompanists
•Meet monthly with Director of Worship Arts to coordinate performance plans
•Select and purchase music for the children’s choirs in consultation with Director of Worship Arts
•Coordinate children’s choirs to sing in traditional and contemporary worship services with adult music leadership and ministers.
•Plan and prepare a choir kick-off event in cooperation with other choir directors
•Prepare and present a Christmas musical each year
•Coordinate Vacation Bible School music
•Opportunities for programs in the fall and spring are open to the direction and creativity of the Children’s Choir Director
Skills
•Understand children’s development in learning musical skills
•Strong organizational skills with ability to lead, delegate, and work with volunteers
•Flexibility in meeting the changing ministry needs of children’s music program and the congregation
Qualifications
•Bachelors of Music Education or Bachelors of Music preferred
•2-3 years experience working with children preferred
