In Genesis 1:26, we are told that God’s intention for humanity is that we would have dominion over the rest of Creation. That means that God has entrusted creation into our hands. We are expected to practice good stewardship of this charge, knowing that Creation is the Lord’s and we will be held accountable for our deeds.
In 2017, Bishop Hope Morgan Ward was led to form the North Carolina Conference Creation Care Committee, with the goal of changing the theological understanding of Creation in North Carolina from a domination mindset to a service mindset.
With this goal ever in our minds, the Creation Care committee promotes the best care of God’s creation on all levels, provides theological education within our churches to better understand what it means to steward creation, and shares best practices for corporate and individual life.
The Creation Care committee works in a wide range of areas, including advocating for creation with our government leaders, presenting learning opportunities in local churches and online, standing up for environmental justice, providing guidance for how Christians can live greener lives, connecting with churches and other non-profits for sustainable food practices, and much more.
I invite you to explore our website to learn more about what we are doing right now. Feel free to reach out to us about your own Creation Care work, or with any questions or insight, you might have.
In Christ,
Rev. Jarrod S. Davis
