SOUL CARE WORKSHOPS
Sponsored by the Conflict Transformation Ministries
North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church
War changes all who step onto the battlefield. The transition home from deployment presents numerous challenges for the veteran, the veteran’s family, and the community. Churches are uniquely positioned to heal the soul and strengthen the spirit of the veteran and the veteran’s family.
Our presenter is Chaplain (Col) David Smith, US Army, retired. He is the Coordinator of the Soul Care Initiative for JustPeace. David is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and served 30 years as an Army Chaplain. During his service, he deployed 9 times, including 4 combat deployments. In the workshops, we will explore the specific needs of our returning warriors and their families; discuss the theological and practical resources available to church leaders and members; and develop skills in order to design mission and ministry to welcome, reintegrate, and journey with our veterans and their families.
The workshop will be offered in two locations on two consecutive days. Each workshop is the same.
- March 9, 2016: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, Camp Ground United Methodist Church, Fayetteville, NC.
- March 10, 2016: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, Northwoods United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, NC.
