The Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20 states: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. ” The task is clear. We know how to make members. Are we equally adept at making disciples?
The work of discipleship is an ongoing process yet many congregations admit they do not have an intentional system for doing so. Those that do can attest to the transformation they see in the lives of people.
The Conference Board of Laity is offering an opportunity for lay and clergy leaders across the conference to create systems of intentional discipleship formation, or improve on an existing one. The event will be led by Dr. Phil Maynard of emc3coaching.com and author of the books, “Shift: Helping Congregations Back Into the Game of Effective Ministry” and “Membership to Discipleship: Grow Maturing Disciples Who Make Disciples.” The event will be offered in 4 locations to increase access across the conference. The day’s activities begin at 9:30 (check in) with training running from 10 am – 3:30 pm. The fee is $10 per person and includes lunch.
