Reality check: 19 out of 20 people under the age of 35 don’t participate in Christian worship. (3DM Ministries Research) Almost half the population in North Carolina is under the age of 35.
The North Carolina Conference is offering a workshop and coaching relationship for participating local churches in order to increase their capacity to engage younger adults in a discipleship pathway leading to a growing relationship with Christ and the church. The workshop is just the beginning. Participating pastor/lay teams will receive ongoing coaching for a period of one year to support them in following through on their efforts.
When and Where?
Two opportunities (choose one):
September 25-26, 2015 – Richlands United Methodist Church – 101 E Hargett St. Richlands, NC 28574 – http://richlandsumc.org/
October 23-24, 2015 – Bethany United Methodist Church – 101 Old Wharf Road, Wanchese, NC 27981 – http://bethanyunited.com/
What does it cost?
The normal cost of this program is $1800 per church for 2 workshops and a year of coaching. Since The Duke Endowment has provided a very generous grant, most of the cost for eligible church is covered. To verify whether or not your church is eligible for Duke Endowment funds, please check this listing. The Conference is obligated to pay the full cost for church teams at the outset.
For Duke Endowment eligible churches, the cost to the church for participation is based on a scale related to Average Worship Attendance:
Less than 50 = $250
50 – 100 = $350
100 – 200 = $500
200 – 350 = $650
This fee is due at registration and, if necessary, be made in two equal payments.
If a participating church is not Duke Endowment eligible, the cost is $1550 and the NCC will subsidize $350 of the church’s involvement, thereby making the church portion $1200. Payment can be made in full at registration or can be submitted in installments of $400 each (Initial deposit due at registration, second payment due November 15, 2015 and third payment due January 15, 2016.)
