Ellerbe United Methodist Church, with an average worship attendance of 32, partners with Mineral Springs Elementary, a school with a free and reduced lunch rate of 100%. A reading enrichment camp that the church started in 2014 expanded in the summer of 2015 into an eight-week camp, serving over 45 students called the R.O.C.K. (Reading Outreach Christ’s Kingdom). Community support is strong: the school provides advertisement and classroom resources, and the library coordinates weekly programs with R.O.C.K. initiatives. The church maintains an active community food pantry that supplies food for the camp and bags of food for children to take home through the summer. Ellerbe is making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children.
