One area of focus of Congregations for Children (C4C) is “Advocating for community and governmental support of public education.” Before we can effectively advocate for our public schools, we must be aware of the pressing needs and issues that our public school educators, students, and their parents face daily.
The Leandro case is the most significant court case in a generation that affects public education. At its core is the issue of adequate funding for “a sound basic education” for all North Carolina public school children, regardless of their address and socioeconomic status.
Leandro is back at the forefront of our attention on the health of our public schools, and WRAL is offering an instructive 30-minute documentary about it on March 16 at 7:30 PM. This will be one of several avenues for learning about the ways our public schools are being financially starved, and our public school children are being adversely affected — and the ways we can flip that narrative to our children’s advantage.
