Grace and peace to you today in the name of Jesus Christ.
I offer this message in response to queries received about the Franklin Graham Decision America campaign coming to North Carolina in OctoberThe North Carolina Conference is neither an endorser nor a sponsor of Decision America.
We United Methodists are deeply committed to faithful witness, evangelism and discipleship. We seek personal and social holiness in the way of Jesus Christ.
The starting point of our theology is the great love of God for all people and all creation. We are engaged in Christ’s ministry by grace and through mercy. Therefore, our highest call is to share love, grace and mercy with generosity, trusting in God’s abundance. Our starting point is the great love of God rather than the sinfulness of humanity.
We seek to make disciples of Jesus Christ in every place for the transformation of the world. We do this particularly in these ways: forming effective leaders, strengthening healthy congregations, working to dismantle racism, supporting children and those who teach them in public schools, and living in the unity given by the Holy Spirit.
We rejoice in these and other ways God continues to enlarge our hearts and increase our compassion:Gratefully welcoming the partnership of Islamic Relief USA in Tarboro as we do together the work of rebuilding homes destroyed by hurricanes,Affirming in our Book of Discipline that homosexual persons are of sacred worth and that churches are called to engage in intentional ministry with LGBTQIA+ persons and their families,Sending groups of clergy and laity to the border of Mexico and the United States as learners and servants among God’s people there. We are deeply committed to being “a light to the nations that God’s salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” We call for a world where all learn and grow as humble and yet confident followers of the Prince of Peace.
May God continue to bless your ministry as you faithfully lead your church and community.
