Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ.
On August 25, we will celebrate Disciple Bible Outreach Ministries Sunday and receive a special offering for this important ministry of our annual conference. I encourage you to invite generosity for this good cause on August 25 or another Sunday of your choosing. Envelopes have been provided based on your average worship attendance. These “Talking Points” are provided for insertion in your worship bulletins. I invite you to share the impact of Disciple Bible Outreach Ministry on the lives of people. Wanda was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1989. Ten years later, she participated in her first Disciple Bible Study class at North Carolina Correctional Institute for Women in Raleigh. Experiencing God’s grace and receiving hope, she continued in Disciple, completing Disciple I, II, III, and IV at a United Methodist Church in the area. Growing in her discipleship, she joined the church. With the help of community volunteers from her church, she was able to attend worship services, join a small group, and even become a Stephen’s Minister!
Wanda just learned the exciting news that she will be released on parole in December of 2021. Wanda is deeply grateful for the ministry she received from her Disciple leaders and her church. She wants to begin again as a new person. She is a new person with Christ and the church at the center of her life. Her life is transformed with new hope and strong faith.
For more than 20 years, Disciple Bible Outreach Ministry has been changing the future for Wanda and many others. Thank you for your support of this annual offering, for your prayers and for your engagement in this transforming ministry.
With gratitude for Christ’s ministry we share,
Bishop Hope Morgan Ward
