Bishop Ward encourages churches to recognize the good works of UMCOR by giving generously on UMCOR Sunday, March 31.
Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ.
The scriptures say, “As you have received freely, freely give.” I invite your generosity on this Sunday, the fourth Sunday in Lent, UMCOR Sunday. Across United Methodism, we will invite offerings and receive your generosity in the wake of disasters around the world.
We, in the North Carolina Conference, know the generosity of the connection. Across the years, we have received in generosity more than we have offered. We are a place often battered by storms, often experiencing rising water, and the ongoing work of disaster recovery is funded through The United Methodist Committee on Relief and other generosities.
In the past week, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Malawi have been battered by Cyclone Idai. Hundreds of people have died. Far away, your generosity is making a difference. Even as you hear these words, people are being comforted, healed and helped.Let us continue this good work this Lent. Let us give generously on UMCOR Sunday or the Sunday of your choice as you connect with others in The United Methodist family and offer hope and healing around the world.
