Dear United Methodist friends,
Create in us clean hearts, O God, and renew a right spirit within us.
Praying these words from Psalm 51, we move into the season of Lent today.
With the weather conditions and forecast for this evening, many Ash Wednesday services across our annual conference will be cancelled. How then might we mark the beginning of Lent?
The wonderful idea of Ashes at Home is offered through the creativity of spiritual leaders in our midst.
On this site, praybelievelive.org/ash-wednesday-home/, you will find guidance for a simple service of worship. I hope you will use it, whether you are alone or in community with others in your household. Through this liturgy and the sign of ashes, we remember our mortality and we repent as we begin our Lenten journey.
May God’s promise of grace and forgiveness come true in us on this cold, icy Ash Wednesday as we worship apart in households, yet together in spirit.
With prayers for you as we seek the renewal this season offers,
Hope Morgan Ward
