I have been working with the Conference Board of Church and Society to plan a series of luncheon forums so that we might engage in dialogue with one another about challenging issues in our communities and our world. The eight district superintendents will be present at each forum and will welcome clergy and laity from their districts.
Our hope is that laity and clergy will be informed and helped to engage these issues in your church and community.
The first forum, Immigration Reform and Reaching Out in Ministry to Immigrants, will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 11am-1pm, at the Methodist Building in Garner. Speakers will include Jorge Ochoa Longi, pastor of Jonesboro-La Trinidad Hispanic Ministry and Ismael Ruiz-Millan, Director of the Hispanic House of Studies, Duke Divinity School. Lunch will be provided at a nominal cost.
I hope you will mark your calendar for three other forums:
- Wednesday, Jan 15 – 11am-1pm on Criminal Justice (https://vimeo.com/84865944)
- Wednesday, April 2 – 11am-1pm on Homosexuality (https://vimeo.com/91411497)
- Thursday, Oct. 16 – 11am – 1pm The Israel/Palestine Forum
With gratitude for our life together in Christ,
Hope Morgan Ward
Lunch will be provided for a $5 cash donation at the door but registration for lunch must be provided to Robin Harry, rharry@nccumc.org, no later than the Wednesday before each forum to be included in the catering number.
The event will be streamed live for anyone who cannot attend in person.
