The Great Generosity of God
Do not be afraid. Go and tell the others! – Matthew 28:10
Our hearts are filled this day with Easter love and life and light!
Matthew’s gospel artfully contrasts the great power and generosity of God that overwhelms those who experience Easter.
There is a violent earthquake! An angel of the Lord rolls back the heavy stone! The scene is bathed in glorious light!
The guards shake with fear. The courageous women tremble, joyful yet fearful.
The angel and Jesus echo generous words, “Do not be afraid! Go and tell the others!”
God’s great generosity offers comfort, guidance, direction in this great moment of resurrection experience. Overwhelmed mortals are embraced by angels and by Jesus. This generous, divine, double embrace gives strength to the women. Joy overcomes fear as they run to tell the others.
God’s heart always extends to those who have not yet heard the good news. “Do not be afraid! Go and tell the others!”
Indeed! Let us be generous in every way as Easter witnesses.
Alleluia! Christ is risen indeed!
