Hurricane Florence did considerable damage to churches and parsonages in our conference. Great generosity is needed to help these churches but we, like Mary, trust in the words of the Angel Gabriel – “With God nothing is impossible.”
Grace and peace to you in these candlelit days of Advent.
The angel Gabriel says to Mary, “For with God nothing is impossible.” Indeed, the news which Mary has heard seems very improbable, even impossible. How could she be the one who would bear forth the Savior of the world? The angel Gabriel describes how – “God will overshadow you.”
God indeed overshadowed Mary and overshadows us. God gives us great strength and generosity. You’re invited to participate in a conference-wide offering during Advent and Christmas. This offering is designated for the rebuilding of over 90 churches and 30 parsonages damaged by Hurricane Florence.
Your generosity is needed. The task is huge, and yet, with Mary, we trust the word of the angel, “with God nothing is impossible.” These words echo across scripture and other places. When you hear them remember they were first shared with Mary as she heard the Good News of Advent and Christmas. May we bear this Good News in the world as we share generously this Christmas.
