Bishop Ward greets us from Hawaii to remind us that we are in the season of green – the season of newness of life.
Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ.
Hildegard of Bingen said, “God is green.” We are in the season after Epiphany. The paraments in our churches and clergy stoles are green. Green is the color of growing things.
The appointed text for these weeks in February are from Matthew – the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus on the outside on a green hill gave us what John Wesley called the most sublime passage in all of scripture. I hope you will take a moment to read it from beginning to end, Matthew 5, 6, and 7. In this section of scripture, we learn how to grow more and more into the likeness of Jesus Christ.
The beautiful scenery around me is in Kailua, Hawaii, where Mike and I have just these days welcomed a new granddaughter. Visiting with our daughter and our son-in-law and our grandson, we have experienced newness of life as Nyla comes to live among us.
May Christ be with you in every way in this season of green.
