Bishop Ward uses the Pilgrimage 2020 theme of “Claimed” to remind us of God’s promise in Isaiah – “I have called you by name and you are mine.”
Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ.
This weekend, we celebrate Pilgrimage 2020. For over 25 years, the youth of our conference have gathered with their adult leaders for a weekend unsurpassed in connection, in celebration, in teaching, in preaching, in sharing music and art, in celebration of the life we share in Christ.
The theme for this year’s Pilgrimage is the powerful one word – Claimed. We are claimed by God into community with one another. We are not alone. We have the love of God and the love of one another to support us throughout our lives.
Our two older grandchildren, Amos and Theo, have baptismal banners upon the wall of their bedroom. The banners have their names and this powerful verse from Isaiah – “I have called you by name and you are mine.” As you gather virtually this weekend, let us all surround them with our prayers and let us meditate as well on this powerful truth of scripture. God creates us. God claims us. God loves us. God gives us what we need in every moment – in times of joy and in times of challenge. In the midst of pandemic, Pilgrimage 2020 will be a great gift this weekend.
With grateful hearts, we offer God praise this day for the power of youth ministry, for the way it forms young hearts, minds, and souls for a lifetime and for the opportunity to be in ministry together.
