Bishop Ward and Suzanne Cobb discuss some exciting things that are happening in the area of Conference Youth Ministry.
Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ.
I’m with Suzanne Cobb, who is the chair of our conference Committee on Youth Ministry, and in this new year, we have new opportunities and we revisit ones we’ve had in place for some time with new and renewed energy. Tell us about the work team.
SUZANNE: We had group go to Costa Rica the last week of December. They had a marvelous time serving and being the hands and feet of Jesus. This is one of our trips that we reinstated; it’s been quite a few years since they’ve had the opportunity to serve on an international mission trip so we have reinstated that. We had 17 to go. It was a combination of youth and young adults and it was a wonderful opportunity for them to serve in that country.
BISHOP: Global Vision is soon?
SUZANNE: Global Vision is coming up. The registration is closed out; we have 35 youth and six adults that are going to be traveling to Washington, DC and New York City for this study tour. This year, the topic is “The Other Half” which is a study on women in the world. They will attend seminars in Washington and in New York City that are led by leadership in those areas. They will also have the opportunity to do some touring and going to a Broadway show and some other wonderful events while they are there.
BISHOP: And Kaleidoscope is an opportunity for young people. Tell us about Kaleidoscope.
SUZANNE: Kaleidoscope is a complement to confirmation within the local church. It’s not a confirmation retreat but it certainly complements that for our middle schoolers. It is for current sixth-eighth graders and it will be held at Camp Don Lee April 13-15.
BISHOP: You are invited to share this good news in your local church. Thank you for all that you are doing to invite young people toward Christ and into Christ’s ministry in the world.
