Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ.
I am on the Outer Banks of North Carolina at Nags Head with the Cabinet. We are entering into Lent together as we work on appointments for the coming Conference year. As we share pancakes tonight at the Colington Church and as we worship tomorrow night at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church, we connect with you wherever you are on this Fat Tuesday, on Ash Wednesday and into the days of Lent.
We congratulate Duke Memorial United Methodist Church on a wonderful award. They’ve been recognized as a National Award winner for Church World Service. Their stellar work in the “Crop Walk for Hunger” across the years, as well as their engagement with immigration and refugee resettlement, makes them a leading light among us. I mention this award because it is an award for service and during the season of Lent, we follow our servant Lord Jesus all the way to the cross.
Let us lay down our lives for one another. Let us reach out in concern and love to the world. This pleases our Lord Jesus as we begin in our Lenten journey.
May this be a season in which you grow toward God and grow deeper in faith, compassion, mercy, justice and love.
